Lighting a Candle During the Crucible
About Boot Camp: The Crucible
Posted on 5/1/2000

Over the past 20+ years, many family members of recruits have lit candles to burn the entirety of the crucible, showing support for their soon-to-be Marines. Some people may put a battery-operated candle in their window or turn on their recruit's bedroom light to help guide them "Home" and give them the strength to get through the event. It is also common to tell friends and family to turn on a porch light to show their support.
